Privacy Policy — VIGIL

This privacy policy applies to the VIGIL application for iOS and watchOS, developed by Raul Jimeno Martinez (the “Developer”).

Summary

VIGIL has no user accounts, no servers and no analytics. The Developer operates no backend and receives no data from you whatsoever. Your game data stays on your device.

Data stored on your device

VIGIL stores the following locally on your device, and only there:

• Your game progress: shelter, resources, survivors, missions, statistics and message log.
• The approximate coordinates of the location you chose as your shelter, and the map sectors generated around it.
• An expedition log: a record of places you visited while playing far from your shelter, including approximate coordinates, a street or place name obtained from Apple’s geocoding service, and the dates and results of those visits. You can delete this log at any time from the log screen inside the app.
• Daily step count, distance, floors climbed and active minutes, plus calories, sleep and workout data read from Apple Health where you grant access.

This data is written to the app’s private storage container. If you have device backups enabled, it is included in your iCloud or local backup under Apple’s terms. Deleting the app removes it. None of it is transmitted to the Developer.

Health data

With your permission, VIGIL reads step and activity data from Apple Health to drive gameplay. That data is read on device, used to compute in-game resources, and is never written back to Health, shared, or transmitted anywhere. You can revoke access at any time in the Health app.

Location data

With your permission, VIGIL uses your location to place the game map over your real surroundings and to detect when you enter or leave a sector. It uses visit detection (CLVisit) so the game can progress with the app closed. Your location is processed on device. You can revoke access at any time in iOS Settings.

Third-party services

VIGIL embeds no advertising, analytics or tracking SDK. It uses no cookies. It does not track you across apps or websites and makes no use of the App Tracking Transparency framework, because there is nothing to track.

Three connections do leave your device, and you should be aware of them:

• Apple Maps (MapKit). Map tiles are downloaded from Apple’s servers, which necessarily conveys the map area being displayed.
• Apple location services and geocoding (CoreLocation). Positioning uses Apple’s assisted-location infrastructure, and the app asks Apple to convert coordinates into a street or place name for the compass and the expedition log.
• ANU Quantum Random Number Generator (qrng.anu.edu.au), used as a source of randomness for in-game events. The app requests random numbers only; no personal, device or location data is sent, and the service returns nothing but numbers. If it is unavailable, the app falls back to a local generator.

Data received by Apple through the above is handled under Apple’s own privacy policy, not this one. The Developer has no access to it.

Your rights

Because the Developer holds no personal data about you, there is nothing for the Developer to access, correct, export or delete on your behalf. You control your data directly: delete the expedition log from the log screen inside the app, reset your progress in the app, or uninstall the app to remove everything. This position applies equally under the GDPR, the UK GDPR and the CCPA/CPRA. The Developer does not sell or share personal information, and never has.

Children

VIGIL is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone, children included.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date before the change takes effect.
